Merit Scholarship in Women’s and Gender Studies

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program awards one scholarship to a WGST minor every fall.  This scholarship can be used in the following spring semester.

Eligibility

  1. Declared Women's and Gender Studies minor.
  2. At least second semester sophomore standing.
  3. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
  4. Student must enroll in one WGST course in following semester.

Award

$500 towards UNC Charlotte tuition and fees.

Criteria for Awarding Fellowship

The Women's and Gender Studies Scholarship Committee will consider the following: applicant's academic record, involvement in women's issues, and financial need.

Instructions to Applicants

A completed application consists of the following materials:

  1. Cover sheet with full name, address, telephone number, email, and Banner ID number.
  2. Personal essay of 300-500 words describing your interest and involvement in women's and gender studies or feminist and/or LGBTQ issues.
  3. Two letters of reference. At least one must be from a UNC Charlotte faculty member. These letters should evaluate your academic achievement, interest & involvement in women's issues, and other strengths.
  4. Contact information for the people who are writing your letters of reference. This includes their names, titles, addresses, and telephone numbers.

We will not consider incomplete applications.  All items must be typed. The applicant should submit items 1, 2, and 4 to Dr. Sonya Ramsey. Item 3 should be sent by the referees to Dr. Sonya Ramsey at the address below.
